After the Drowning of Migrant Boats, Libyan Beaches Receive Dozens of Bodies

The Libyan Coast Guard announced today, Tuesday, that the waters have washed ashore at least 57 bodies after two migrant boats sank in the Mediterranean Sea off the coast of towns in the western part of the country. Coast Guard official Fathi Al-Zayani stated, "11 bodies were recovered, one of which belonged to a child, off the coast of Qaraqosh, east of Tripoli," adding that the migrants were from Pakistan, Syria, Tunisia, and Egypt. A relief worker indicated that more bodies are expected to wash ashore in the coming days. The boat set sail this morning toward Europe with about 80 passengers onboard, according to a survivor who told Reuters, "We kept struggling until someone reached us. The scene was horrifying, and some died in the water right in front of me."
