The Korean Central News Agency reported that the Central Committee of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea began an important meeting yesterday, Friday, to determine the country's diplomatic and defense strategy "to deal with the changing international situation," with the presence of leader Kim Jong Un. The agency added, "The meeting is expected to last several days and will also review the country's economic projects during the first half of this year."
Before the meeting commenced, North Korea launched two short-range missiles off its coast less than an hour after threatening a "certain" response to military drills conducted by South Korean and American forces earlier. North Korea stated that the drills increase military tensions. Last month, Pyongyang attempted to launch a spy satellite in its first satellite launch attempt since 2016, but the attempt failed.
