Russia: Cruise Missile Shot Down Targeting the Region

Two Russian officials announced that Russian air defense systems shot down two missiles on Sunday, one flying over the Crimean Peninsula and the other over the Rostov region in southern Russia near the border with Ukraine. Sergey Aksyonov, the governor appointed by Russia in Crimea, stated on the Telegram app that "Russian air defense systems shot down a cruise missile near the city of Kerch." He added that "the incident did not cause any damage or injuries, without specifying the launch location of the missile." Local officials reported that traffic on the Crimean Bridge, which connects the peninsula to mainland Russia, resumed after it had seemingly stopped, without disclosing the reason for the halt. Vasily Golubev, the governor of the Rostov region, announced on Telegram that air defense also shot down a Ukrainian missile targeting the area. Golubev wrote, "There were no injuries. The debris caused partial damage to several building roofs." Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine in 2014, and it is now the home of its Black Sea Fleet. Kyiv seeks to regain control over Crimea.
