Two suicides occurred in Roumieh Prison within less than 48 hours, resulting in the deaths of a Lebanese and a Palestinian. Local media reported that "the Lebanese, born in 2007, hanged himself this morning, Thursday, after being transferred on Wednesday to building C for a theft charge. He was preceded by the Palestinian in building D, who attempted suicide by drinking a quantity of 'alcohol' 48 hours earlier and subsequently passed away."
Furthermore, the Internal Security Forces issued a statement indicating, "The individual known as A.K. (born in 2007, registered as unknown) was detained for theft and gang formation and was transferred on 10-5-2023 from the Ramla Whites police station to building C in Roumieh Prison, which is designated for new inmates to monitor their health conditions under the supervision of nurses from the World Health Organization. After the corpse was examined by a forensic doctor, it was confirmed that the victim died by hanging, and there were no signs of violence."
In relation to the second inmate, who is identified as A.T. (born in 1991, Palestinian), he was detained for drug-related charges and passed away on 8-5-2023 after being transferred to the hospital. An examination by the forensic doctor revealed that the cause of death was heart muscle failure.
