The United Nations World Food Programme warned on Thursday that Gaza is facing "widespread famine," adding that nearly all residents are in urgent need of food assistance. The program's executive director, Cindy McCain, stated, "Food and water supplies are virtually nonexistent in Gaza, with only a small fraction of what is needed getting through the borders." She added, "With winter approaching rapidly, and with unsafe and overcrowded shelters and a lack of clean water, civilians are facing an immediate threat of famine."
