Libya Recovers 5 Bodies of Migrants from Africa Near the Border with Tunisia

The Libyan Ministry of Interior stated in a statement today, Monday, that it has "recovered 5 bodies of migrants from Sub-Saharan Africa in a desolate area near the border with Tunisia." The ministry pointed out that "patrols found the bodies near the border area with Tunisia between the Dahra al-Khas and Tawila al-Ratba."

Dozens of Africans from the Sub-Saharan region have been stranded near the Libyan border, claiming that Tunisian authorities transported them to this area from the city of Sfax earlier this month. The Tunisian government later moved them to shelters in two towns, but human rights groups have stated that "dozens are still trapped there under extremely difficult conditions, left thirsty and hungry in an unprecedented heatwave."
