Fire Disrupts Operations at Kia Factory in South Korea

South Korea's Yonhap news agency reported today that production has been disrupted at one of Kia's factories due to a fire in the paint shop. Citing an unnamed source, it noted that "the fire broke out late Monday at Kia's No. 3 plant in Hwaseong, located south of Seoul," adding that "the fire was extinguished after about 40 minutes with no injuries or fatalities." Yonhap stated that "Kia's union and management agreed to grant workers in the assembly line and paint shop leave until September 6." It further mentioned that "the affected line manufactures the K5, K8, and EV6 vehicles," noting that "it is still unclear how many vehicles produced have been affected by the work suspension."
