German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated in an interview with Deutschlandfunk aired late Friday that the upcoming G20 summit in India remains significant despite the absence of Russia and China. Scholz emphasized that the G20 still has an important contribution and a "great commitment" that needs to be met, especially given the increasing importance of the BRICS group, which includes Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa. He also mentioned that countries with a colonial history bear the responsibility to enable development in their former colonies. The Chancellor proposed assisting former colonies in exploiting and processing their natural resources in what he termed "fair partnerships."
