Algerian Interior Ministry: Wildfires Claim 34 Lives

The Algerian Interior Ministry announced today, Monday, that 34 people have died, including 10 soldiers, due to wildfires in the regions of Bejaia and Bouira, with 1,500 people evacuated. The ministry added that efforts are ongoing to extinguish the fires, with 7,500 firefighting teams participating in the efforts. The firefighting operations continue in the provinces of Boumerdes, Bouira, Tizi Ouzou, Bejaia, Jijel, and Khenchela. North Africa is experiencing a significant heatwave, with temperatures reaching 49 degrees Celsius in some towns in Tunisia, where wildfires have affected the border town of Melloula.
