The Palestinian Prisoners' Club announced on Monday that the number of Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli jails has surpassed 1,000, marking the highest figure in 20 years. On the occasion of Palestinian Prisoners' Day, which falls on April 17, the club stated in a press release that the policy of administrative detention "has affected children, women, the elderly, and the sick," noting that there are six children and two female detainees among the administrative detainees.
The statement added that since the beginning of this year, over 860 detention orders have been issued, emphasizing that the majority of administrative detainees are former prisoners who have spent years in the occupation's prisons.
As of the start of this year, Israel has detained approximately 2,300 Palestinians, including 350 children and 40 women. It highlighted that "the occupation continues to detain around 4,900 Palestinians, including 31 women and 160 children, one of whom is under 18 years old."
The statement further mentioned, "The number of sick prisoners exceeds 700, who suffer from various degrees of illness and require ongoing health care. At least 24 detainees have been diagnosed with cancer and tumors of varying stages."
