The licensed air traffic controllers have decided to postpone their work schedule as planned and to make every effort to continue providing safe and sound air navigation services at Beirut Airport around the clock, feeling their national and pivotal role in keeping the airport as Lebanon's gateway to the outside world. The air traffic controllers affirmed that the decision was made "to allow for the implementation of what was agreed upon as soon as possible, as we promised, and for a positive initiative to be met with positivity," especially after the authorities expressed understanding and appreciation for the role of air traffic controllers and the precision and importance of their work and responsibilities.
The air traffic controllers' demands include issuing a decree for the hiring of those who passed the 2018 Civil Service Council exams for the position of assistant controller, which the Minister of Public Works and Transport has placed on the agenda for the first session of the Cabinet. They also seek to expedite the implementation and funding of the training project for assistant controllers after being informed that the relevant authorities have been contacted to begin training, as well as to temporarily employ licensed controllers until the training period for the assistant controllers is completed.
