Title: Mexican Referee Suspended for 12 Matches After Kicking Player

The Mexican Football Federation announced today, Tuesday, the suspension of Mexican referee Fernando Hernandez for 12 matches after he kicked a player during the America vs. Leon match. During the game, Hernandez struck Leon midfielder Lucas Romero, who was also suspended for two matches for his strong objection to America’s equalizing goal. After the match, Romero stated that he did not call for Hernandez to be penalized as it was merely a misunderstanding, adding that he only asked the referee to show respect on the field. Hernandez apologized early in the week, saying, "I offer a special apology to the fans and to player Lucas Romero for my reaction." He added, "I will not attack him or any other player, and I will abide by the decision of the disciplinary committee." The 2-2 draw between America and Leon witnessed many altercations between the two sides. The teams currently occupy the fourth and third positions in the Mexican league, respectively.
