International Criminal Court Issues Secret Arrest Warrants Related to Crimes in Libya

The Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court, Karim Khan, informed the United Nations Security Council today, Thursday, that "the court has issued 4 new secret arrest warrants for crimes allegedly committed in Libya since 2011." Khan added, "I can announce today that arrest warrants have been issued by the court's independent judges." He further stated that "his office submitted a request in the past few weeks for two additional arrest warrants, but the judges have not yet ruled on the matter."

The warrants are currently confidential, so it is not clear who they target or the specific crimes for which the International Criminal Court Prosecutor accuses them. The Prosecutor has requested the judges to lift the confidentiality, and they are awaiting a decision.
