Video - Car Nearly Ignites Aircraft at Montreal Airport

A car caught fire while parked under an aircraft yesterday, Sunday, at Pierre Elliott Trudeau Airport in Montreal. Airport authorities reported that "there were no injuries, as the fire was brought under control in less than half an hour." Airport spokesperson Ann Marcotte explained that "the fire started in the car's engine, and firefighters were quickly called in to contain it before the aircraft was damaged, with no flight delays reported." Photos taken of the aircraft after the fire was extinguished show smoke damage around the rear door.

For its part, Air Canada clarified that "the burning vehicle was designated for water," stating in a press release: "The crew responded professionally by ensuring the swift disembarkation of the remaining passengers from the aircraft that had just arrived from Geneva. The aircraft is currently out of service for maintenance inspection."
