African Migrants from Libya to Their Home Countries for Ramadan

Hours before the start of the month of Ramadan, 174 African migrants in Libya prepared to return to their home countries, with some returning for the first time in many years. This organized journey from Libya is part of a voluntary repatriation program implemented by the International Organization for Migration (IOM). The migrants had been living in Misrata, Libya, for years after their attempts to cross to Europe failed, and they had been working and sending money to their families back home. Since 2017, the IOM has been accelerating the voluntary return program to repatriate migrants from several countries.
