Iraqi Court Ends Membership of Speaker of Parliament, Who Responds

Official media reported today, Tuesday, that the Federal Court in Iraq decided to terminate the membership of the Speaker of Parliament, Mohammed Al-Halbousi. The report indicated that "the decision was made based on a lawsuit against Al-Halbousi this year," without providing further details. In response, Al-Halbousi stated in a video clip that the court's decision to end his term is "strange" and that he will seek clarifications. Al-Halbousi: "We will resort to the procedures that protect constitutional rights." He added, "I have been keen since the moment I entered Parliament to address the problems that the country faces." The court's decision is final and cannot be appealed.
