A Moroccan Young Man Entered Turkey as a Tourist and Left as a Refugee

Turkey deported the 22-year-old Moroccan, Ismail Zou, who entered Turkey on a tourist visa, to Syria due to the authorities' belief that he was an irregular migrant. The young man was apprehended in April last year inside a grocery store in Istanbul, and since he did not carry his identification documents, he was directed to a deportation center in Kilis province, where he stayed for one month and 25 days. He was later deported to northern Syria through the Oncu Binar gate. After the Syrian authorities confirmed that Zou was not a citizen of Syria, they decided to return him to Turkey, where he was deported this time through the Jarablus gate.
