Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko announced that "the Ukrainian capital was subjected to an air attack today, Saturday, with loud explosions heard, but no reports yet of casualties." Klitschko added on Telegram: "Huge explosions were heard on the left bank of the capital," referring to the left bank of the Dnipro River. The mayor continued: "Air defense was initially working against (ballistic) missiles." Warnings of air attacks on Kyiv and a neighboring area were issued just minutes before the explosions were heard. City authorities urged residents to stay in shelters.
