The International Organization for the Protection of Mediterranean Children has warned of what it considers a dangerous phenomenon "that threatens children's lives and exploits them in scorpion hunting for intermediaries who sell them to medical institutions, including a prestigious institute aimed at extracting antivenom."
The organization stated that it is closely monitoring the spread of a phenomenon in rural Tunisia where a large number of children risk their lives by hunting venomous scorpions under the scorching sun and in the pitch-black night without any safety measures. It also explained that the hunting operations are conducted for the benefit of "intermediaries" who market them at multiples of their cost for the benefit of the government Pasteur Institute, thus making it a partner in this crime against these minors.
