FIFA President Gianni Infantino stated that "women's football has witnessed amazing growth over the past ten years," adding: "Women's competitions have developed incredibly in the past ten years and the best is yet to come for this sport." He expressed his confidence that the World Cup will respond to skeptics regarding the value of women's competitions. Infantino remarked, "Many people who believe that women's football is still weak or not very entertaining or a poor version of men's football, or things like that, will see that it is a fantastic competition if they watch the matches for the first time." He considered that "if there is one sport in which women can compete with men's competitions, it would be football. I mean, women make up about 50 percent or more of the world's population, right?" FIFA expects around two billion people to follow the 64-match tournament hosted by Australia and New Zealand, which is set to kick off in Auckland tomorrow, Thursday.
