The White House confirmed today, Tuesday, that it has no indication of Russia's involvement in the Niger coup and that the United States has not changed its decision regarding its presence in the West African country. The U.S. military reported today that Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff General Mark Milley spoke by phone with Niger's Chief of Staff, Lieutenant General Issa Abdou Sidikou, discussing the safety of American citizens as well as the situation in the country. According to a U.S. military spokesperson, the call took place on July 27. John Kirby, the strategic communications coordinator at the U.S. National Security Council, told reporters that the administration has not yet made any decisions regarding the future of U.S. aid to Niger.
