The Deputy Special Coordinator of the United Nations in Lebanon, Resident Coordinator, and Humanitarian Coordinator Imran Riza, the representative of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees Ivo Freisen, and the representative of the World Food Programme Abdullah Al-Wardat announced that "as a result of a series of meetings held yesterday with the caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati and the caretaker Minister of Social Affairs Hector Hajjar, and at their request, the decision was made to suspend the provision of cash assistance in two currencies for refugees next month, while discussions continue regarding the appropriate mechanisms that can be followed."
The United Nations reiterated its "commitment to humanitarian principles in supporting the Lebanese government to assist those most vulnerable across Lebanon. All operational decisions are made with full transparency and in accordance with the United Nations' commitment to its humanitarian mission. These decisions include those related to assistance programs and the methodologies employed, which are based on solid and objective facts and comprehensive research."
It emphasized that it "continues to stand with the people of Lebanon and its government during these difficult times, fostering a collaborative environment to serve those in urgent need of assistance, including refugees."
