The UAE Ministry of Interior has warned against approaching flood channels and valleys, as well as water gatherings during unstable weather conditions characterized by heavy rains and winds, and has announced increased penalties for violators. The Federal Traffic Council has emphasized stricter penalties for offenders as part of preventive measures concerning safe behavior during emergencies and severe weather events.
A new violation has been introduced: "Entering valleys during their flow, regardless of danger levels," with a fine of 2000 dirhams, 23 traffic points, in addition to a 60-day vehicle impoundment. The penalty for "gathering near valleys, floods, and dams during rainy weather" has also been intensified, with a fine of 1000 dirhams and 6 traffic points added to the driver's record.
The UAE has witnessed torrential rainfall in many areas, leading to the formation of floods that have inundated major streets in various cities. In light of the fluctuating weather conditions and heavy rains and winds experienced in some regions of the country recently, the Ministry of Interior has urged the public to follow six guidelines: stay informed of weather bulletins, heed advice and guidance from competent authorities, check vehicle readiness including lights, wipers, and tires, drive smoothly and cautiously, avoid speeding, and stay away from flood channels, valleys, and water gatherings.
