Has Ismail Haniyeh Been Expelled from Turkey?

Turkey officially denied reports on Monday claiming that the head of the political bureau of the Palestinian movement "Hamas," Ismail Haniyeh, was expelled from the country by President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan. The Turkish Presidency's Directorate of Communications' Disinformation Combat Center (DMM) dismissed claims circulated by international and Israeli media regarding President Erdoğan asking Hamas officials to leave Turkey.

In a statement on its official account on the platform "X" (formerly Twitter), the center stated, "The claims that President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ordered senior Hamas officials to leave Turkey immediately are completely untrue." The statement added, "Do not believe these unfounded and false allegations."

The center also shared a copy of an article published on the "Monitor" website on Monday which discussed Haniyeh's expulsion from Turkey and Ankara's relations with Hamas. On Monday morning, several foreign and official Israeli news outlets reported these claims, asserting that Ismail Haniyeh, who resides between Qatar and Turkey, was visiting Turkey on October 7 and that Turkish authorities "politely sent him" out of the country.
