A crocodile devoured Jesús Alberto López, a player from the amateur Costa Rican soccer team Deportivo Río Cañas, last Saturday while he was swimming in the Río Cañas in Guanacaste province. A shocking video has spread on social media, showing the predator swimming in the water with the victim between its jaws.
In another video, the crocodile is shown being shot in the water before locals carry the victim's body to the riverbank.
The Deportivo Río Cañas club released a statement after the funeral of their player on Wednesday: "Today is an extremely difficult day for all of us. We will remember you as a coach and a soccer player, as well as a father. You will always live in our hearts."
