The spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Ahmed Fahmy, confirmed that the absence of a final statement from the "Peace Summit" held in Cairo on Saturday does not mean that the summit failed. The spokesperson stated in comments to local media that the Security Council often does not issue a final statement for the summits it holds. He mentioned that one of the points of contention among the participants in the "Peace Summit" was the level of condemnation of one of the parties involved. He noted that respect for civilian rights and the two-state solution were among the most important points of consensus among the participants.
It is worth mentioning that after the conclusion of the "Cairo Peace Summit," the Egyptian presidency issued a statement saying that Egypt was looking forward to the participants issuing a global call for peace, agreeing on the importance of reassessing the international approach to the Palestinian issue over the past decades. The statement criticized the "serious shortcoming in the international scene in finding a just and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue over the centuries," adding that "the ongoing war has revealed a flaw in the values of the international community in dealing with crises."
The presidency stated: "While we see a rush and competition to quickly condemn the killing of innocents in one place, we find an inexplicable hesitation to condemn the same act in another place." In conclusion, Egypt renewed its affirmation that it "will never accept claims to liquidate the Palestinian issue at the expense of any country in the region, and it will not relent for a moment in preserving its sovereignty and national security amid increasing risks and threats."
