A medical team from the Department of Gastroenterology, Hepatology, and Endoscopy at King Saud Medical City successfully performed the first endoscopic esophageal muscle myotomy (POEM) on a 28-year-old citizen. The city clarified that the patient had been experiencing difficulty swallowing due to a lack of esophageal muscle relaxation for a year and did not respond to traditional dilation. After examinations, the medical team decided to perform the procedure, which lasted an hour without any complications. The patient left the hospital in good condition after regaining his ability to swallow normally.
