Denmark Plans to Reduce Military Presence in Iraq

Danish Defense Minister Troels Lund Poulsen announced today, Tuesday, that Denmark intends to reduce its military presence in Iraq starting from early 2024, focusing its military efforts instead on the Baltic states. The minister indicated that Denmark plans to donate 1.7 billion Danish kroner, equivalent to 249.81 million dollars, to Ukraine for military purposes.

Poulsen stated, "We must be prepared for a long-term Danish presence in the Baltic states, and there is a need to balance our soldiers' presence on the ground and readiness to deploy them from Denmark." The Ministry of Defense clarified that the troops would remain in Denmark for the rest of the year and be on standby for deployment to the Baltic states in the event of a crisis.

Additionally, it was noted that Denmark will withdraw one of its security and guard units, which consists of about 105 soldiers in Iraq, starting from February next year, but will continue to provide personnel and advice to the NATO mission in Iraq.
