The American site "Axios" reported today, Sunday, citing four unnamed American and Israeli officials, that Brett McGurk, senior advisor to U.S. President Joe Biden, is expected to visit Israel and several countries in the region this week to discuss efforts to release hostages in Gaza. The site mentioned that McGurk is expected to stop in Brussels on his way to the Middle East to coordinate with NATO and European allies regarding the Gaza war.
The site, according to the officials, noted that among the ideas being discussed is the release of about 80 women and children held by Hamas in exchange for Israel releasing Palestinian women and teenagers held in its prisons. Israeli officials indicated that the deal under discussion could also allow fuel to enter the Gaza Strip. However, it was noted that American and Israeli officials indicated that the deal is not imminent, but discussions about it are ongoing.
The site added that McGurk is also expected to visit Saudi Arabia, Jordan, and Qatar, in addition to a visit to Bahrain next week for the Manama Dialogue, according to "Al Arabiya."
