U.S. House Speaker Mike Johnson announced on Wednesday that he still intends to hold a vote on a standalone bill to assist Israel, despite the Congressional Budget Office's report indicating that this bill may exacerbate the federal deficit by reducing revenues for the Internal Revenue Service. In the first major legislative action during the new House Speaker Mike Johnson's tenure, Republicans in the House unveiled a supplemental spending bill that allocates $14.3 billion for Israel by cutting funds collected by the tax service. This measure faces strong opposition from Democrats, as well as from some Republicans. Senate Democratic Leader Chuck Schumer stated on Tuesday that the bill will arrive "dead" in the Senate.
