A leadership delegation from the Amal Movement, including MP Mohammed Khawaja, former MP Ali Bzayy, and Dr. Ali Rahhal, visited the headquarters of the Progressive Socialist Party in Beirut, where they were received by Democratic Gathering members, MPs Hadi Abou Hassan and Faisal Al-Sayegh, and General Secretary of the Progressive Party, Zafer Nasr. During the meeting, both sides discussed various political developments and the general situation. They emphasized the necessity of electing a president capable of managing the country's rescue path, viewing this as a fundamental national priority that must be pursued by providing all the conditions and atmospheres needed to accomplish it. This can be achieved through dialogue that leads to an understanding among parliamentary blocs to end the vacuum and ensure the regular functioning of constitutional institutions, requiring everyone’s response to the dialogue initiative called for by Speaker of the House Nabih Berri.
Both sides also stressed the absolute importance of proceeding without further delay on financial and economic reforms through a recovery plan based on a clear vision that provides actual solutions to all the crises the country is facing and ensures the rights of people, particularly the rights of depositors both residents and expatriates. While recalling the strong historical relationship between them, which has been established through various stages of joint struggle despite natural differences on several positions, they reaffirmed the importance of cooperation and coordination to face the challenges confronting Lebanon in these harsh circumstances, and they committed to continue working to fully implement the Taif Agreement and to uphold the democratic framework and dialogue approach to protect citizens and maintain the state.
