Syrian Foreign Minister Faisal Mekdad confirmed, in a statement following his meeting with Tunisian President Kais Saied at the Carthage Palace on Tuesday, that Syria's embassy in Tunisia will be opened in the coming days, and a new diplomatic staff, headed by an ambassador, will be sent to enhance relations between the two countries. He also confirmed that a new ambassador from Tunisia, approved by the Syrian Arab Republic, will assume his duties in Syria, according to Mosaïque FM.
Mekdad stated that "Syrio-Tunisian relations were good until the relations were halted and meetings were held against other Arab countries," referring to the Friends of Syria conference held in Tunisia in 2012, during which relations with Syria were severed.
The Syrian Foreign Minister expressed his country's satisfaction with the relationship between the two nations and the "bold and courageous decisions made by President Kais Saied," noting that these decisions reflect "unyielding determination and resolve to unify the efforts of Arab countries to face the challenges they are facing," in addition to accurately expressing their aspirations and belief in the future. Mekdad emphasized the need to make further efforts to strengthen Arab relations and to prevent foreign powers from fragmenting Arab countries and their peoples.
