A spokesperson for the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) announced today, Friday, that the chief of staff of West African armies intends to hold a meeting next week to formulate plans for a potential military intervention in Niger. A Nigerian government official stated that the military chiefs will meet in Ghana tomorrow, Saturday, to prepare plans for a potential military intervention in Niger after ECOWAS ordered the activation of a standby force.
