Title: Palestinian Prisoners in Israel Suspend Hunger Strike Plan

Representatives of Palestinian prisoners in Israeli jails announced today, Thursday, that two thousand detainees who intended to commence a hunger strike starting today have decided to suspend their strike, following an agreement with the prison authorities. They stated in a press release: "After halting punitive and arbitrary measures against the prisoners, it was agreed to suspend the hunger strike, and a detailed statement will be issued by the Supreme Emergency Committee of the prisoners’ movement in the coming hours."

The open-ended hunger strike was scheduled to begin today, involving two thousand of around 4,800 detainees in Israeli prisons, including 170 children and 29 women, in protest against measures imposed by Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir. At the beginning of last month, Ben Gvir ordered the cessation of work by Palestinian prisoners detained on security charges in the bakeries of two Israeli prisons, claiming he had canceled "privileges and pampering."
