Israeli President Isaac Herzog stated in an interview with the Financial Times that Israel cannot leave a vacuum in Gaza and will need to maintain a strong presence there in the near future to prevent Hamas from emerging again in the region. Herzog said, "If we withdraw, who will take responsibility? We cannot leave a void. We have to think about what the mechanism will be. There are many ideas on the table."
