The International Criminal Court (ICC) announced today, Wednesday, that a high-level delegation from the U.S. Congress will meet with the prosecutor in The Hague tomorrow, Thursday, to discuss allegations against Russian President Vladimir Putin for committing war crimes. The delegation, led by Michael McCaul, Chair of the U.S. House Foreign Affairs Committee, will speak with ICC Prosecutor Karim Khan in a further indication of improving relations between Washington and the world's largest war crimes tribunal. The ICC issued an arrest warrant for Putin in March for allegedly committing a war crime related to the unlawful deportation of hundreds of children from Ukraine. Moscow has repeatedly denied that Russian forces participated in war crimes or forcibly took Ukrainian children. McCaul stated, "30,000 children were taken from their families to be integrated into Russia." He added that Washington is exploring ways to "assist The Hague in gathering more and more evidence and intelligence to build the case against Putin."
