The Beirut and Mount Lebanon Water Authority wants to inform subscribers about the continuous total interruption of electricity since midnight last Wednesday for its main stations that require electricity to pump water, which are the Dbayeh, Jeita, Damour Well Complex, Naameh, and Mashraf stations. This automatically results in a disruption of water supply to the areas of Metn al-Aali, coastal areas, Burj Hammoud, Ashrafieh, Burj Abi Haidar, and Tel al-Khayyat.
The authority is working to rely on generators, but this only partially covers the necessary demand, as the cost of operating generators for long hours is extremely high, and the Beirut and Mount Lebanon Water Authority cannot bear these expenses, which exceed its budget.
The authority apologizes to subscribers for the repeated hardships beyond its control, especially as the financial conditions on one hand and the health-related challenges linked to the COVID-19 and cholera pandemics on the other, weigh heavily on them, forcing them to spend part of their meager incomes on buying often non-sterilized water.
Accordingly, the Beirut and Mount Lebanon Water Authority urges the relevant officials to prioritize the interests of the people above all considerations and work towards establishing permanent solutions for the pumping stations to ensure they do not stop functioning and to secure the citizens' natural and fundamental right to clean water.
