The English Football Association announced today, Tuesday, that Liverpool player Virgil van Dijk faces a charge of "misconduct" after receiving a direct red card during the 2-1 victory over Newcastle United in the Premier League. Van Dijk received the red card from referee John Brooks approximately half an hour into Sunday’s match for a foul on Newcastle's Alexander Isak at the edge of the penalty area. During the video assistant referee review of the incident, it appeared that the Dutch defender was arguing with Brooks. The FA stated, "The allegations suggest that the defender acted in an improper manner and/or used abusive and/or insulting words towards the match official after being sent off in the 29th minute." Van Dijk will have until Friday to respond to the charge.
