The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported today, Thursday, that "at least eight people were killed in attacks by Turkish drones on an area controlled by the Kurds in northeastern Syria," following Ankara's threats to target Kurdish military facilities in Syria and Iraq. The observatory stated: "The U.S.-led coalition shot down a Turkish drone today that approached a base in northeastern Syria." In an interview with Reuters, a security source indicated that "two were killed in a strike targeting a vehicle near a military facility, and six others were killed in a subsequent attack on a military site near the town of Amuda."
A Turkish defense ministry official stated that "launching a ground operation in Syria is among the options Turkey may consider, after Ankara concluded that the two assailants who detonated a bomb near governmental buildings earlier this week came from Syria." The official added, "Our only goal is to eliminate terrorist organizations that pose a threat to Turkey. A ground operation is one option to eliminate this threat, but it is not our only option." Turkey stated on Wednesday that all Kurdish military facilities in Syria and Iraq are legitimate targets, after concluding that the two assailants who detonated a bomb outside government buildings in Ankara earlier this week came from Syria.
