Tunisian President Announces Date for Local Elections

Tunisian President Kais Saied announced during a Cabinet meeting on Thursday that an order will be issued on December 24 to call voters for local and regional elections. Saied clarified that he chose this date for its symbolic significance, as it coincides with the martyrdom of two young men, Mohamed El Amari and Shokri Bouaouina, in the town of Manzel Bouzaiane in the Sidi Bouzid Governorate in 2010. He emphasized that if no candidate receives an absolute majority, a second round will be held, to which only the first and second candidates who received the majority of votes will advance.
