British Foreign Secretary James Cleverly confirmed today, Monday, that his country is working towards a humanitarian ceasefire to allow aid into the Gaza Strip. He added to Reuters at the British ambassador’s residence in Abu Dhabi: "We are working intensively with the Egyptians, the Israelis, and other parties to try to reach a humanitarian ceasefire, a short temporary halt to enable us to bring humanitarian aid to those in need." He continued by stating, "Aid is entering slowly, but we need a significant increase in quantities." Israel has so far rejected international calls, including from the United Nations, for a humanitarian ceasefire from the bombardment of Gaza, which Palestinian health authorities say has led to the displacement of one million people and the deaths of more than 8,000. Cleverly is scheduled to meet with UAE Foreign Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Zayed Al Nahyan later today, Monday.
