Pentagon Urges Congress to Avoid Government Shutdown

The Pentagon has called on the U.S. Congress to do everything it can to avoid a government shutdown that would negatively impact the Pentagon's operations. Pentagon Deputy Press Secretary Sabrina Singh stated during a press conference on Thursday, "Congress must work together across party lines to prevent a government shutdown and approve the budget," adding that "a government shutdown is the worst-case scenario for the Department of Defense." She clarified that in the event of a shutdown, U.S. military personnel would have to work without receiving pay, and hundreds or thousands of civilian employees at the Pentagon would be placed on unpaid leave. She further stated, "In this regard, we ask the U.S. Congress to do its job and fund the government."
