Disney: Weak Start for

Walt Disney Company indicated on Sunday that the film produced by Pixar achieved sales below expectations at the North American box office this weekend, totaling around $30 million. This figure is considered weak for the opening of a film in the United States and Canada, placing it among the lowest-grossing films produced by Pixar, which has included famous works like "Toy Story" and "Finding Nemo." Disney noted that the film generated an additional $15 million in overseas sales, bringing the total revenue to $45 million. The film was launched in only three major international markets, with plans to release in other countries in the coming weeks.

Tony Chambers, Disney's head of theatrical distribution, expressed disappointment over the weak ticket sales the film experienced locally. He indicated that action films and animated movies based on original characters and stories have struggled since the COVID-19 pandemic. Pixar had been hoping to recover from the disappointment of the low earnings of "Lightyear," which was released last year and only grossed $226.7 million worldwide. This figure is minimal compared to the earnings of its previous film "Toy Story 4," which reached $1 billion in 2019.
