Olympic Committee Crisis Escalates... Klass Warns

Minister of Youth and Sports Dr. George Klass called on officials and those concerned about the Lebanese Olympic Committee to embrace national spirit and prioritize Lebanon's interests and the future of its athletes above all else. He urged heads of federations, clubs, the parliamentary Youth and Sports Committee, and friends of sports to take action and apply pressure to resolve the crisis.

Klass stated that negative external signals have begun to appear on the horizon, coinciding with the ongoing unproductive disputes that could lead to the collapse of Lebanese sports as a whole into a quagmire no one desires. He added, "I still urge everyone, from a position of national concern and sporting responsibility, to put national interests above any other consideration. I call for them to sit together for an unconditional dialogue where no one is favored over another, respecting everyone who is a pillar of Lebanese sports. I put myself and the Ministry of Youth and Sports at the service of a hoped-for quick reconciliation that would close the doors to any threats endangering the continued work of the committee, which we consider the icon of Lebanese sports and its face to the world. I reiterate the call for everyone to engage in urgent discussions and reach an agreement on a formula that puts an end to the issues of the crisis and its consequences, safeguarding the values of sports and the sporting movement, and distancing them from divisions."

Klass emphasized that "rescuing the Olympic Committee is a national responsibility that falls on all stakeholders directly involved in sports, with full respect for international and local regulations governing sports activities."
