White House spokesperson John Kirby mentioned on Thursday that "U.S. President Joe Biden emerged from his meeting with Chinese President Xi Jinping on Wednesday feeling very relieved by the discussions." He added that "the United States would like to see China use its communication channels with Iran to convey the message that the expansion of war in the Middle East should be avoided." He continued, "We definitely encourage them to use these channels to reiterate to the Iranians that we do not want to see the conflict in the region entrenched or escalated," when asked if President Biden received assurances from President Xi Jinping that he would urge Iran to stop attacking U.S. forces in Syria and Iraq.
