Josep Borrell, the EU's foreign policy chief, joined calls on Monday for a ceasefire in the conflict between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic resistance movement Hamas to allow more aid to enter the Gaza Strip. Borrell told reporters upon his arrival for a meeting of EU foreign ministers in Luxembourg, "Right now, the most important thing is the entry of humanitarian support to Gaza." He added that the ministers would discuss a call from UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres for a ceasefire to permit much more assistance to reach Palestinian civilians in Gaza. Borrell stated, "I cannot preempt the outcome of the meeting, but certainly, this is something the ministers will need to discuss. The UN Secretary-General has strongly requested it."
