The General Directorate of State Security – Baabda Office in Mount Lebanon announced in a statement that it had received information about networks smuggling medicine from Turkey and Europe, selling it in Lebanese pharmacies without confirming its validity from the Ministry of Health, thus posing a danger to the health of patients and the Lebanese people.
After obtaining a signal from the Public Prosecutor's Office, State Security summoned dozens of drug smugglers, listened to their statements, and imposed fines amounting to tens of thousands of dollars. Some were arrested, while others were left under investigation after signing commitments. They also raided several apartments and warehouses in the Dahyeh and Mansourieh areas, searching for quantities of smuggled medicine that had been stored without meeting health storage requirements.
The Baabda Office of State Security summoned a number of owners of major pharmacies. After interrogating them and their confession to selling those medicines, they signed commitments not to trade in any quantities of smuggled medicine. State Security continues to follow up on the issue and investigate it under the supervision of the Public Financial Prosecutor, the competent judicial reference.
