Heavy Rains Flood Homes in Northern France

Heavy rains that fell over several days in northern France have caused local rivers to flood, submerging homes and leading to the evacuation of residents. More than 100 towns have been declared in a state of maximum alert. French Environment Minister Christophe Béchu stated, "Dozens of towns will now be considered as dealing with a natural disaster, which will facilitate those whose homes or businesses have been affected by the floods to benefit from insurance coverage." Approximately 200 schools in the area have been closed, and rescue workers have also had to move livestock.
