Data presented today, Tuesday, during the annual meeting of the International Air Transport Association (IATA) in Istanbul, showed that "despite progress made to improve gender diversity in the aviation sector, equality remains a distant goal." IATA Director General Willie Walsh noted that "the representation of women in the aviation sector is still lacking, but we are making progress." According to this year's data, there are 28 women serving as CEOs in the association, which includes 300 major airlines, while women make up 42 percent of employees in the airlines that have signed the initiative.
On another note, Walsh pointed out that the aviation sector recognizes that achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2050 will be "extremely challenging." He added, "the proportion of carbon emissions in the aviation sector globally will likely increase as other sectors move away from carbon."
