BMW and Mercedes Threaten Tesla's Throne

BMW and Mercedes are making their biggest efforts yet in the field of electric vehicles in an attempt to compete with Chinese companies and American Tesla. In recent days, as part of the "IAA Mobility" car exhibition in Munich, the automotive giants unveiled prototype electric cars and their future battery-powered vehicles. European automakers have had to move quickly to demonstrate they are prepared to be major players amid the shift toward electric vehicles, as they are perceived to be lagging behind Chinese companies like BYD, backed by Warren Buffett, and Elon Musk's Tesla.

On Sunday, Mercedes-Benz unveiled its concept car, the "CLA Class," which is an electric vehicle with a new architecture. The company stated that the prototype has a range of up to 750 kilometers (466 miles) and can achieve a range of 400 kilometers with just 15 minutes of charging. Meanwhile, BMW revealed the "Vision Neue Klasse" on Saturday, another electric car that highlights the company's ambitions in the electric vehicle arena. "Neue Klasse" is the new design of the company’s electric vehicles, with the first models based on this version slated to enter production in 2025.
